Synthetic Oil Changes

It seems like everyone has their own opinion when it comes to oil changes.  But when is it really the right time to get an oil change?  This is important information that you need to know in order to best take care of your beautiful European vehicle.  First, you need to know if your car takes conventional or synthetic oil.  If you have a newer car, it is likely that it takes synthetic oil, and there have definitely been some miscommunications about synthetic oil.  You may have heard people say, "You can go as long as 15,000 miles without getting your oil changed!"  That is true.  You can go 15,000 miles without getting your oil changed if you want your engine to look like this beauty to the right.  This is an example of a new vehicle that went 15,000 miles without a synthetic oil change.  While synthetic oil does allow you to go longer without getting an oil change, it is still recommended that you get your oil changed before the date set by whoever serviced your vehicle.  Your filter has to be changed more often.  If you wait until the date set by your servicer to change the filter, there is a strong chance your oil filter could crystallize or deteriorate and cause oil sludge build-up.  This is not good for your vehicle!  The recommendation is to get your oil changed between 7,000 and 10,000 miles.  Keep your vehicle clean and in good shape.

Mini Car. Huge Record.

Amongst the records Mini Coopers break, land-speed records aren't typically amongst such records. All that has now changed with one peppy little Mini Cooper that-could on the Utah Salt Flats. On the far reaching expanse of nothingness, a 1965 Morris Mini Cooper reached a speed of 139 mph; an official record for a 1000cc car of its class. The last record set by such a car was 130 mph. The super-powered Mini Cooper was built by a group from Nelson, New Zealand for around $100,000; thanks to some sponsors. Check out Mini Car Parts' article on the record for more information.

18 Month Trip Turns Into 23-Year Relationship

When former Lufthansa and Hapag-Lloyd executive Gunther Holfort and his wife Christine picked up their their brand new Mercedes-Benz 300GD G-Wagen in 1988 for an 18-month trip, they had no idea that the journey would end up spanning the next 23 years of their lives. The famous 300GD has now over half a million miles on it (equivalent to circling the earth 20 times), has made over 200 border crossings into countries, and when the journey to a new destination can't be made by land, the vehicle is shipped. In all the years and all the miles that have been put on the vehicle, no major breakdowns have occurred; though Holfort does change out parts as they wear out. Every 100,000 miles, Holfort takes the vehicle back to Germany for required maintenance. Since the odometer can't accurately record the extreme number number of miles that have been put on the vehicle, it is periodically changed out and a new sticker is placed to reflect the accurate number of miles. All of these travels have taken place without any sponsorship from Mercedes or any other company; all on Holfort's dime. Holfort's love affair with this particular vehicle is soon to end as the vehicle will be put on display in the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. To read up and see more photos of Holfort's expeditions with his 1988 Mercedes-Benz 300GD G-Wagen, head over to this article from MBWorld.org

Karl Benz: The Father of the Automobile

Karl Benz
Though Henry Ford's name is synonymous with the modern automobile, Ford's real claim to fame comes from his ability to produce an affordable automobile for the general market. The real father and inventor of the automobile was a German engineer by the name of Karl Benz. Though working closely with other engineers of the time period, Benz first acquired a patent for his invention of the internal combustion engine in 1879. From there, Benz developed the very first gasoline-powered automobile which he acquired the patent for in 1886. At the time, developing a method of steering a self-propelled vehicle with four wheels was difficult, so most of Benz's automobiles had three wheels. Because many roads at that time were simply two ruts for wheels on either side of the carriage, this made the ride of the original three-wheeled vehicles quite uncomfortable, if not treacherous for passengers. In order perfect his invention for the wider market, Benz later went into a business with Austrian businessman and car racer Emil Jellinek; who had the nickname "Monsieur Merecedes" in racing circles. The legacies of Benz and Jellinek continue in every Mercedes-Benz to hit the highways and city streets. For more information on the earliest automobiles from Karl Benz, visit this post from 3 Wheelers.com.

Over a 125 years since the patent of Karl Benz’s first automobile, his name lives on in every Mercedes-Benz automobile as being the standard in automotive excellence. An excellent car requires excellent maintenance and repair. BMW X5 Comes Out On Top

Though many enjoy seeing how BMW automobiles stack up against Jaguar and Mercedes Benz model autos, this was quite literally the scene in one Chicago parking garage as a 74-year-old driver was returning a rented BMW X5. Not as familiar with the car as he should have been, the man accidentally pushed down on the gas instead of the brake upon entering a space which sent the X5 through multiple cables, landing on top of a 2003 Mercedes Benz E-Class and a 2005 Jaguar XJ. The man responsible was cited for driving too fast for conditions, but other than being a bit disoriented by the scene, no one was injured. For more on this peculiar story, check out this article from BMWBLOG. Had this happened in Tulsa, most of the cars involved could have benefited from the services of European Auto Specialist. Internet Marketing Drives Auto Sales

In a recent blog post by BMWBLOG, Bloomberg news reported on the changing face of automobile marketing. As more individuals begin to utilize the internet for information on automobiles, internet marketing has begun to play a much larger role in how consumers shop for new vehicles as well as various other products and services. A great example of the influence  that social media, blogging, and internet ad campaigns have had on the auto market comes from BMW who reported a $110 million gain in revenue for its 1-Series line. The 1-Series line by BMW was only advertised via the web which expresses the influence the internet alone has on product marketing.  The auto industry is anticipating a large shift from traditional methods of advertising by devoting a larger focus towards internet marketing. By creating an engaging online marketing experience for the new generation of automobile enthusiasts as well as those who have begun utilizing the web to assist in their buying decisions, auto manufacturers hope to take advantage of a huge marketing opportunity that is only continuing to expand.

Keeping up with European auto enthusiasts online, check out the official website for Tulsa's own European Auto Specialist for more information on the Tulsa dealer alternative for all your European automotive repairs, maintenance, and upgrades.

BMW's i3 & i8 Models Help Owners Save Money, Just Not With Their Pricetags

As BMW enthusiasts gear up for the release of the all new BMW i3 and BMW i8 electric and plug-in  hybrid models to hit the streets in 2014, it is doubtful that the drivers will be clamoring to these models just in order to save money on gas. With the i3's price tag rumored by Bloomberg to be in the +100,000 EUR ($125,510 USD) range, customers will be primarily paying for the performance, innovation, and luxury of a BMW without near the emissions. Still very much resembling concept cars, the sci-fi inspired carbon fiber bodies along with polycarbonite windows, doors, and fenders are sure to turn heads on the highway. Both of these vehicles are just as much about innovation as they are about energy conservation in order to help maintain the vision of what the automotive industry can accomplish as long as the demand is present. Who Says Mercedes' Don't Grow On Trees?

What if instead of a car being built in a plant, it was built from a plant? With the new Mercedes Benz concept car, the Biome, it is the first automobile not built, but rather grown from organic matter that is lighter than plastic yet stronger than steel. At an astonishing 875.5 lbs, the car's all-new BioFibre body is completely biodegradable. The different parts of the car are not built, but rather grown in a lab with a genetic code that was been modified by genetic engineers. The car is rumored to run on oxygen that it absorbs directly from the BioFiber. Each wheel is grown from a seed of its own. For more information on this, one of the most innovative designs at the Los Angeles Auto Show, check out this write up on it from Gizmag. For all Mercedes autos that don't require Miracle Grow, put your auto in the capable hands of the dealer alternative at European Auto Specialist.

Reminesing the Volkswagen Micro Bus

In a new photo gallery from News Times, the van that shaped an entire generation is brought back with descriptions of many of the monumental happenings in the history of the Volkswagen Microbus. A precursor to the modern-day mini-van, the Microbus brought a fairly fuel-friendly alternative to a generation in need of a utility vehicle rather than simply a cruiser. With its simple design and spacious interior, the Microbus quickly took off with the hippie generation of the 1960s; quickly becoming an icon in its generation. Being very customizable, Volkswagen came out with the ever-popular Westfalia camping edition van that featured two sleeping areas, a built-in stove, sink, and refrigerator. Celebrate this historic icon with this photo album. For all your other European auto repair and upgrade needs, check in with the experts at European Auto Specialist.

The Hybrid Hype Continues: Mini Cooper Gets Bitten By The Hybrid Bug

According to a variety of sources, there has been an all-new 2014 Mini Cooper Hybrid spotted in test trial. For those of you saying "What's the big deal? Everyone is coming out with a hybrid. Why is this one special?" The difference in this hybrid is that the car is rumored to be all-wheel drive model with the rear wheels not even connected to a gas-powered engine. According to Car & Driver, the vehicle brings an innovative twist to the hybrid auto scene with rear wheels being powered exclusively by the an electric engine. Not a whole lot else is known about the car even since the story broke in March in 2011, but the scarcity of news just adds to the mystery of this upcoming Mini Cooper release. The Crossover That Keeps Crossing Over: The BMW X1

Not to confused for an SUV or a station-wagon, the all-new 2013 X1 from BMW has car aficionados scratching their heads as they look for the proper label for the new car aside from the vague "crossover" label. Riding lower to the ground than its SUV counterparts, yet not low enough to be considered a station wagon (it's still higher than a regular car), the X1 blends utility with luxury in a high performance package. Even with its "reduced fat" exterior appearance, the X1 boasts of a spacious-yet-manageable interior. With enough room for passengers to feel comfortable on longer outings, yet cozy enough to keep cargo within arm's reach of the front seat (with a little bit of wiggling, of course), the 2013 X1 meshes the worlds of high performance European automotive engineering with a utilitarian side that makes sense for the entire family. A Less-Mini Mini: The Mini Cooper Clubman

For those who love the design of the Mini Cooper's re-released Hardtop or Coupe models, but weren't thrilled with the lack of cabin and storage space, Mini Cooper has released the Mini Cooper Clubman. With an extended wheelbase and redesigned cargo doors, the Clubman packs on a touch more utility to the classic Mini Cooper design without losing that Mini Cooper charm. Nothing "Mini" About It: Review of the Mini Cooper Counrtyman

Usually when one thinks of the Mini Cooper, an image of urban convenience comes to mind without many thoughts to how the auto would perform if the car were to need to traverse an unpaved road or transport four or more passengers comfortably. It was with these ideas in mind that the European auto maker, Mini Cooper, is pleased to introduce the Mini Cooper Countryman. The first vehicle of its size to be introduced onto the market, the Counrtyman takes a stab at competing with similar crossover vehicles. Where the Countryman shines is in that fact that its style label of "crossover" does not mean crossing a boring sedan with an SUV, but rather a high performance vehicle with a fuel efficient, utility-focused automobile. With similar handling to its smaller Mini Cooper counterparts, the Countryman gives Mini Cooper enthusiasts a higher ground clearance, a more forgiving suspension, full rear seating with rear doors, and ample head and foot room. For interior passenger convenience, the Countryman introduces Mini Cooper's Center Rail; a rail that extends from the base of the front shifter to between the two rear seats which houses cup holders, eye glass cases, iPod holders, and other function-filled attachments that can be attached, removed, and repositioned for individualized utility placement. For fuel efficiency as well as performance, the Counrtyman is power by a 1.6 liter 16-valve alloy engine with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The rear cargo area is much more generous than your average Mini Cooper with forward-folding seats and a cargo-area fold-up divider. Depending on the selected package, the Counrtyman is available with adjustable interior ambient lighting, an all-wheel drive option, heated seats, navigation system, and many other features to sup-up the ride to the owner's heart's content. The Best of April Fools 2012

From a Mini Cooper with a front end that resembles a yacht for the boating enthusiast to a self-cleaning Subaru and Mini Cooper with camping trailer options, this year's April Fool's Day tricks from the automobile industry certainly took consumers by store. Subaru's commercial for a self-cleaning car that seemed to make dirt vanish with the push of a button seemed to have some consumers going for a while before they figured out it was simply too good to be true. Some other car gags included a BMW driverless running coach that follows runners on their morning jogs, a completely solar-powered Subaru Tribeca, and Google coming out with their own self-driving NASCAR racer. Return of The British Roadster: The 2012 Mini Cooper Roadster

This year, Mini Cooper has come out with the 2012 Mini Cooper Roadster. This is a two-door, soft-top convertible for those pleasure cruises on the weekends, but also stout enough for use as a commuter. You might be asking yourself, "a two-door convertible Mini Cooper? How is this different from the their hard-top Mini Cooper Coupe?" The good people at Mini Cooper offer this explanation; "It's the return of the British roadster." For the most part, this soft-top convertible provides the quality and drive Mini Cooper enthusiasts have come to expect from the company. The two-door provides drivers with a short-throw 6-speed gear box and three available strengths; 121-hp Cooper, turbo-charged 181-hp Cooper S, and 208-hp John Cooper Works. Being a bit less expensive that the 4-seater Convertible, the 2-seater Roadster also boasts of over 8 cubic feet of trunk space; a bit more than that of its sister Convertible. High Performance Meets High Fuel Efficiency in BMW's i-Series

BMW has always had a reputation for bringing high performance to the city streets, but with some announcements this year about getting serious about fuel economy, BMW has introduced their i-Series cars; the "megacity" i3 and the high performance i8. With a light carbon body and 0-62 mph in 7.9 seconds for the i3 and 4.6 seconds for the i8, these are some of the highest performing autos to ever run on electricity.
